What to Do in Da Nang When It Rains
Da Nang is a beach city, and most people plan a beach trip. Then the sky opens at two in the afternoon and nobody has a plan B. This is the plan B — organised the way rain actually behaves here, by how long you are stuck indoors.
When it rains, and how much
Da Nang gets roughly 1,900 mm of rain a year across about 87 rainy days. Published figures vary between about 1,570 mm and 2,570 mm depending on the measurement period, so treat any single number as an average rather than a promise.
What matters more than the annual total is when it falls. The rainy season runs August to December, and roughly 1,360 mm — about three quarters of the year's rain — arrives in those five months.

A rainy day is rarely a rained-out day.
Outside of typhoon systems, Da Nang rain arrives in bursts — thirty minutes to two hours, often mid-afternoon — with dry spells either side. Even in the wettest month the city averages fewer than thirty rainy days. You are not planning around a week of drizzle. You are planning around a gap.
Match the activity to the gap
This is the part nobody writes down. Look at the radar, guess how long the burst will last, and pick something that finishes when it does. Our own service times, for reference:

The other indoor options
We are a nail salon, so take the obvious bias into account. Da Nang's indoor list also includes the city's museums, its shopping centres, its cafés — Da Nang has a serious coffee culture and a long rain shower is a good excuse to use it — cinemas, and spas. Several of the big hotels sell day passes to indoor pools and gyms.
What most of these have in common with us is the useful bit: you do not need to book them a day ahead. Rain does not give notice, so the plan B that works is whichever one takes you straight off the street.
Three practical notes
- Front-load the beach. If your trip falls between September and November, do the beach and Son Tra peninsula on the first clear day rather than saving them for later in the week.
- Rain makes indoor places busy. Everyone has the same idea at the same moment. Salons and cafés fill up during and just after a downpour — message ahead if you can.
- Grab bars and taxis vanish in heavy rain. Pick somewhere within walking distance of where you already are, rather than the highest-rated place across the city.
